I was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Houston, Texas. I had many opportunities to develop my interest in art as a child. My family provided materials, lessons, trips to museums, art books and encouragement. I attended the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore in 1971-1972. I then studied at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Gto., Mexico, where I was introduced to tapestry weaving. The medium captured my interest so completely that I dropped my other classes and spent every day in the weaving studio. Thirty-some years later, I still feel that tapestry weaving is my vocation. After several years of working with geometric designs, followed by birds and animals, I began weaving simple landscapes in 1979. Since then, I have used landscape as a design source almost exclusively and challenge myself by finding new areas of concentration, such as sky and water, greater detail and the effects of light. I have lived in Montana for over 20 years and find here endless scenes of interest- varied land forms, subtle color and light and inspiring beauty. My husband and I live on a ranch and many of my tapestries portray the neighborhood where I live in Sweet Grass County. For the last 4 summers I have traveled to Summit County, Colorado to visit my parents. The mountain trails where we hike have inspired new tapestries of this area.
